August 15th Nanta Performance + Buffet!

Today was pretty fun. Had some great lectures today. One was by Hyunwoo Sun, the founder of TalktomeinKorean.com. I actually got a chance to get his autograph and got a picture with him! I am motivated to learn more Korean.

Hyunwoo break dancing.

After that was lunch, and I chose not to eat too much because there was a buffet at Shangri-La. After lunch, we had a “networking event”, where everyone split up into their respective provinces. Honestly, I’m not too keen on hanging out with fellow Gangwon people. There was 5 Wonju peeps in my group, and one of em, Ryan, I liked. They were all mostly white people. I’m not a racist, but I just don’t connect with white people as much. Like, some of them go buy soju and mekju from the local CU convenience store, and just drink and get drunk in front of the store… and then they come back to the building drunk and shit. They think that’s fun. I think it’s fucking dumb. So yeah, we have different values, and I can’t connect with em. So I think this is God’s way of telling me to make friends with the native Korean peeps.

After the networking event, we all got on a bus to the Nanta performance. What is Nanta? Hard to explain. I’ve been hearing it’s a culinary show, or it’s a Korean drum show. I went in there expecting it to be like an Iron Chef thing where people compete to cook good food. I would have loved to see that. Instead, it was a cross between acrobatics + cooking + Korean drums + slapstick comedy. It was really good. Sadly no photographs or videos allowed.

We went to eat buffet at the Shangri La. It was lame. $40 for entrance, but the Korean Government paid for it for all the TaLK scholars. For $40, it was shit. But I still ate stuff anyway. Sooo tired now. Really hope I don't get sick. Room mate is sick, people left and right of me are sick. Fucccckkk. Gotta survive this zombie apocalypse scenario. Also used a butt cleaning toilet for the first time. My bum has never felt cleaner lol.
